Jones Nominated for Fellowship
MOORHEAD, Miss. (Sept. 14, 2022) – Dr. Steven Jones, Vice President of Administrative and Student Services at Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC), was recently selected to participate in the Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program (CPFP).
Jones was selected to represent MDCC for the 2022-2023 cohort of the Mississippi CPFP program.
As part of the fellowship, Jones will participate in monthly meetings that focus on four pillars: leadership, networking, policy, and advocacy. In concluding the program, Jones will participate in a capstone event that sees him travel to Washington, D.C.
While in Washington, Jones will have the opportunity to meet with Mississippi’s congressional representatives and senators as well as their staffs and other national education policy leaders.
Jones sees the opportunity to participate in the program as an honor and looks forward to supporting policies that will better the student experience in community colleges in Mississippi.
“I appreciate Dr. Ben Cloyd and Dr. Tyrone Jackson for nominating me to represent Mississippi Delta Community College in this capacity. I’m excited about the opportunities the program will present for my fellow higher education colleagues and I to advocate for policies aimed at improving the quality of education and services for the students we serve in the Mississippi community college system,” explained Jones.
The colleagues that Jones spoke of are professionals from the 15-member Mississippi community college system who have also been chosen for the fellowship.
“I look forward to meeting members of the 2022-2023 cohort and working with, and learning from, each of them," Jones said.
The CPFP program has existed in Mississippi since 2012 and has over 120 alumni, including MDCC Vice President of Effectiveness and Enrollment Dr. Ben Cloyd. The program is sponsored by the Mississippi Community College Board in partnership with the Washington, D.C.-based AdvocacyBuild.
