Adult Education Breaks Record

MOORHEAD, Miss. (Nov. 1, 2023) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) is excited to announce that its Adult Education (AE) program is at a record-setting pace, having already served over 185 students in the year 2023. The program's dedication to providing high-quality adult education has contributed to this remarkable achievement.

Allison Brady, director of MDCC’s AE program, attributes this surge in student enrollment to several key factors. The program has effectively recognized the increasing demand for a high school diploma, as many employers now require this as a prerequisite for employment.

To address this growing need, MDCC AE has forged strong partnerships with community organizations, particularly the Delta Health Alliance, which has been a significant source of referrals. These collaborations are instrumental in expanding access to the program and making it more widely known in the community.

Director Allison Brady further noted that building relationships with key partners, such as the Delta Health Alliance and the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, has been vital in bridging gaps and expanding the program's reach. "We've really built up our MIBEST program and grant funding for wraparound services," Brady remarked. "So I think it's really positive when our students can go into the community and say, 'Hey, I got my high school equivalency diploma (HSE), and now I'm working with their college and career navigator, Ms. Kimberly Youngman, and I'm going to start welding classes in August.' It makes it much more attractive that we're putting folks on a pathway to a career, not just a job."

The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MIBEST) program, a key component of MDCC's AE initiative, is dedicated to moving non-credentialed Mississippians into careers where they can earn family-sustaining wages. This program has played a pivotal role in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

Classes in the MDCC Adult Education program are offered at multiple locations. These include the MDCC Greenville Campus (GHEC), the Greenville WIN Job Center, the MDCC Greenwood Center, and the MDCC Moorhead Campus.

For individuals interested in joining this transformative program, the next registration period is scheduled for January 8-11. It's important to note that classes are free of charge. To enroll, participants are only required to present a valid state-issued ID. Class sessions typically operate from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
