MDCC Presence Remains Strong in Greenwood
MOORHEAD, Miss. (Apr. 14, 2023) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) will be temporarily relocating its current Greenwood Center location to 204 East Church Street while renovations are being made on a new, permanent home in Greenwood.
“We began looking for a new building to better serve the Greenwood public in the fall of 2022,” explained Vice President of Instruction Teresa Webster. “While searching for a temporary home for our Greenwood location, I was introduced to Mr. T. Mac Howard of Delta Streets Academy."
“To my delight, he stated that he would be vacating his current building at the end of the school year and moving across the street to their beautiful new location for school beginning in August. Seemingly, this location for the MDCC Greenwood Center fell out of the sky!” Webster continued.
Webster went on to say that Mississippi Delta is moving to the temporary location to have time to perfect the new Greenwood campus to best serve the Greenwood community and is excited that the temporary location is already designed with education in mind.
“It is already set up with an adequate number of classrooms with desks and mounted Smartboards and dry erase boards. Essentially, this location is granting MDCC a move-in ready location,” said Webster. “MDCC plans to continue serving the citizens of Greenwood and surrounding areas with the same quality services that we have been providing for over 20 years. There will be no interruption in services to our students as we make this transition.”
With the MDCC Greenwood Center not moving to its temporary location until the last week in June, Summer I classes will still be held at 207 West Park Ave. Summer I classes will begin May 30 and end June 22.
Orientation will also still be held at the previous location on June 21 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
“We will have people there to assist you with whatever you need on orientation day just like we always have,” explained Webster. “We’ll be there to help with schedules, answer questions about classes, whatever is needed!”
Students in Summer II classes will be the first to have the opportunity to experience the temporary facilities when those classes begin July 5 and end August 3.
The first full semester of classes in the new building will begin August 14.
While the location of MDCC’s Greenwood campus will be changing, MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson is committed to the quality of education remaining the same.
“MDCC is devoted to serving current and prospective students in Greenwood. We’re excited to continue our efforts in fulfilling the mission of serving our region through high-quality education,” said Jackson. “As a reminder, we’re currently accepting enrollment applications for the summer and fall semesters.”
