MDCC Breaks Ground on New Men’s Residence Hall

MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson and members of the MDCC administration and Board of Trustees break ground on the new men's residence hall on the Moorhead campus.


MOORHEAD, Miss. (June 13, 2023) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) marked a historic moment on Thursday with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new men's residence hall. The event took place on the MDCC Moorhead campus, signifying a significant milestone in the college's commitment to student success and enhancing campus facilities.

The ceremony began with a welcome from Dr. Steven Jones, MDCC Vice President of Administrative and Student Services.

"The groundbreaking for the new men's residence hall marks a significant milestone for Mississippi Delta Community College. This building will not only enhance our campus and attract more students but also provide valuable opportunities for programming and a more engaging collegiate environment," said Jones of the new residence hall. "We express our sincere gratitude to the boards of supervisors, state delegation, and taxpayers of Mississippi for their support, ensuring positive dividends for years to come."

Dr. Peter Jackson, chair of the MDCC Board of Trustees, delivered a heartfelt invocation, setting a tone of gratitude and anticipation for the project ahead.

Jakori Johnson, MDCC Student Government Association Vice President, delivered a speech on behalf of the student body. As the 2022-2023 Mr. MDCC, Johnson expressed his excitement about the new men's residence hall and reflected on the resilience and loyalty demonstrated by the on-campus student community. He emphasized the importance of acceptance, patience, and dedication in their journey and expressed confidence that the new residence hall would bring forward the same Trojan spirit.

Frank Dantone, Esq., an MDCC Board of Trustees member, delivered remarks emphasizing the significance of the new men's residence hall in attracting more students to the institution and thanked the building committee and legislature.

Dr. Tyrone Jackson, MDCC President, concluded the ceremony with a speech, expressing his gratitude to the various stakeholders involved in bringing this project to fruition. He recognized the vision and commitment of the MDCC Board of Trustees, the collaborative efforts of the building committee, and the essential contributions of county boards of supervisors and state legislators. Dr. Jackson highlighted the transformative impact of the new residence hall on student engagement and success, both academically and personally.

"Today, as we break ground on the new men's residence hall, we celebrate not only the physical structure that will stand here but also the unwavering spirit of collaboration, dedication, and support that has brought us to this point," said Jackson.

Following the groundbreaking, a reception was held to celebrate this momentous occasion and acknowledge the shared dedication and support that made the project possible.
