MOORHEAD, Miss. (Aug 8, 2022) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) held its Summer 2022 Health Care Assistant (HCA) Pinning Ceremony on Mon., Aug. 1, in the Greer-Stafford Allied Health Building on the MDCC Moorhead campus. Graduates of the HCA program are eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination.
The class that was pinned was MDCC’s first HCA night class which ran from May 23 until July 28. The program is a 10-week, hybrid program with clinical rotations being performed on the weekends.
Also known as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), health care assistants work very closely with clients. The assistant provides personal care such as bathing, feeding and dressing while also performing support functions such as taking vital signs, making beds, transporting clients and assisting clients with daily living activities.
Graduates from this program may work in a variety of settings including nursing homes, long term care facilities, personal care facilities, hospitals, home health agencies and private homes.
Dean of Health Sciences Patricia Kelly presented the candidates for certification and Health Care Assistant Program Coordinator Traci Mascagni pinned the graduates.
While the fall semester classes are already full, the HCA program at MDCC will begin taking applications at the end of August and will continue to do so until Nov. 1.
