MDCC Receives MBS Best of the Best Award
MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson receives Best of the Best award accompanied by Associate Dean of Student Services Nakeshia Fipps and Vice President of Administrative and Student Services Dr. Steven Jones
MOORHEAD, Miss. (Feb. 2, 2023) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) recently received a Best of the Best award from Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) for its contributions to the organization.
MBS regularly recognizes all schools, businesses, and locations that host blood drives but presents annual awards for those that “raise the standard” for contributions.
“This college has been a long-time supporter of MBS. They know how important it is to have a good blood supply,” said MBS Marketing Representative Amber Ray.
The award was given amid Mississippi being in a severe blood shortage. According to Donor Resource Specialist Brittany Michell, Mississippi never quite bounced back from COVID-19.
“O negative is what’s needed the most, which is the most rare blood type,” said Mitchell. “But it is universal, so all blood types can receive that blood. We’re constantly trying to get it out to hospitals for patients who need it.”
Mitchell went on to say that while O negative is in higher demand, all blood types are needed.
“We are very grateful for the recognition from MS Blood Services. The award has both motivated and inspired our team to continue promoting and emphasizing the importance of blood drives at MDCC,” said Associate Dean of Student Services Nakeshia Fipps.
MDCC will continue its efforts to assist in healing Mississippi’s blood shortage this Monday with another blood drive on the MDCC Moorhead campus outside of the Vandiver Student Union.
