MOORHEAD, Miss. (Oct. 17, 2023) – Last Thursday, Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) held a deeply meaningful luncheon to commemorate the life and dedication of former board member Mr. Mickey Thompson, who passed away earlier this year. The event was attended by esteemed members of the MDCC community, friends, and family of Thompson.

Thompson's unwavering commitment to education and his invaluable contributions to MDCC were at the center of the ceremony. In honor of his memory, the MDCC Board of Trustees drafted a poignant resolution celebrating his legacy and his profound impact on the institution.

The luncheon began with MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson welcoming guests before introducing board member Fletcher Clark, who extended his gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the significance of the occasion. The proceedings then commenced with an invocation led by board secretary Katherine Tankson, offering a moment for reflection and remembrance.

Three distinguished individuals shared their reflections on the remarkable life and work of Mr. Thompson. Brenda Grubb, a member of the MDCC Foundation board, spoke of his exceptional service to the college and his warm smile. Dr. Peter Jackson, Chair of the MDCC Board of Trustees, highlighted the profound impact Thompson had on the college and his own life. Frank Dantone, Vice-Chair of the MDCC Board of Trustees, emphasized the enduring legacy Thompson leaves behind after his 35 years of service.

MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson, echoing the sentiments of the entire MDCC family, invited Mr. Thompson's wife, Jean, and their son, Jeffrey Thompson, who serves as a history instructor at MDCC, to come forward. In a touching moment, Dr. Jackson presented the resolution to Mrs. Thompson, encapsulating the appreciation and gratitude felt by the college.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Jackson ensured everyone in attendance that Thompson's legacy would continue to live on at MDCC as the institution continues to move forward.
