MDCC PTA Gains Accreditation
MOORHEAD, Miss. (August 9, 2022) – Mississippi Delta Community College’s (MDCC) Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program has received full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
“We are excited to announce our PTA program’s full accreditation by CAPTE. We are very proud of our PTA faculty and staff for their accomplishments and service to our students and community,” said Dean of Health Sciences Patricia Kelly.
Kelly went on to explain that accreditation is important in health science programs because it ensures that the programs meet the quality academic standards needed for students to sit for national and state licensure exams as well as entry-level employment.
“This accomplishment also ensures our students will experience a fantastic educational experience,” added Kelly.
Director of Physical Therapist Assistant Callie Bell has been key in the program gaining accreditation but credits the entire MDCC team.
“The accreditation granted by the CAPTE is a result of the great teamwork we have at MDCC,” explained Bell. “This process has taken years to accomplish and has required participation at all levels within the college, not just from the PTA department.”
Bell added that the accreditation means students from the Delta have even more options in terms of pursuing an education and possible careers.
“The national accreditation and commendation given by CAPTE means that we can provide a quality education for the study of becoming a physical therapist assistant right here at home,” concluded Bell. “Students from the Mississippi Delta no longer have to travel further than the Greenville Higher Education Center to complete the education required to become a PTA.”
