August 10, 2020
Mississippi Delta Community College is proud to announce a 6th year of funding in the amount of $600,000 from the U.S. Department of Education Title III, Part F, Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) – Competitive Grant Program which funds MDCC’s Student Success Initiative. The funding period will begin October 1, 2020 and ends September 30, 2021.
“We are very grateful to have been afforded this opportunity to continue our efforts in supporting African American males in need of additional support services at Mississippi Delta Community College, and we sincerely thank the U.S. Department of Education. For those who were unaware, the PBI Student Success Initiative program’s funding was scheduled to end on September 30, 2020. I have been following the final waiver and extension of the project period requested by the U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, for over the last few months as these funds have a tremendous impact on the College’s ability to enhance the academic success of our program participants,” said Steven Jones, vice president of Administrative Services.
“We are very excited and looking forward to bringing renewed energy to the Student Success Initiative program. Planning is underway, and I can’t thank Ms. LaShandar Johnson and the Student Success Initiative staff enough for the hard work they bring to this program. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing team,” said Jones.
The PBI grant program is being extended in order to align and coordinate the funding cycles of all discretionary grant programs authorized under Title III, Part F, Section 371 of the Higher Education Act.
