MOORHEAD, Miss. (Sept. 6, 2021) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) is excited to announce that History Instructor Dr. Sharelle Grim and Drafting & Design Instructor and Career-Technical (CTE) Department Chair Ernest “Bubba” Pilgrim have been selected as the 2021 TROJAN Teacher Award recipients.

The TROJAN Teacher Award celebrates two on-campus teachers, and one off-campus teacher, who are nominated by department chairs and chosen by a committee selected by the president.

The award’s acronym also serves as a descriptor of the recipients – Teachers Recognized for Optimism, Job well done, Academic excellence and Nurturing students.

While Grim and Pilgrim were announced as the on-campus recipients this year, there were no off-campus nominees for the award.

Grim is exhilarated to have earned the recognition of TROJAN Teacher.

“After dedicating twenty years to educating young people at Mississippi Delta Community College, I am overwhelmed with gratitude at being recognized for teaching excellence,” explained Grim. “This prestigious award is a true culmination of my hard work and love for my craft.”

Teresa Webster, MDCC’s vice president of instruction, recognizes the dedication that Grim has put in over the past 20 years.

“Dr. Sharelle Grim has been deeply committed to teaching in our social sciences department for a number of years. She is passionate about history and loves her students!” said Webster.

Similarly, Webster feels that Pilgrim has shown excellence in multiple areas in CTE.

“Mr. Pilgrim is an excellent instructor who has really stepped up to the leadership plate as the CTE Coordinator. We appreciate him and all of his contributions to our successful CTE programs,” continued Webster.

Pilgrim is very appreciative of the recognition of his hard work.

“I am so honored to be chosen as a TROJAN Teacher this year; it is such a blessing to work alongside other great instructors,” explained Pilgrim.

He then concluded with, “It’s a great day to be a Trojan!”
