Dear Students,
Whether you are a returning student or attending for the first time, I welcome you to Mississippi Delta Community College – the hidden jewel of the Mississippi Delta. At the start of every new semester, as students once again fill the hallways, walkways, and classrooms of campus, I can feel the Trojan spirit at its strongest. Your journey at MDCC stretches far beyond the classroom. While you’re here, you’ll be exposed to new ideas and meet people with experiences, viewpoints and backgrounds that may differ from your own. We hope you embrace the opportunities this presents and view each new engagement and conversation as a way to learn and grow.
The Division of Administrative and Student Services is excited to welcome the following new staff members to the team:
- Willie Gant, Jr., former assistant director of student housing and residence life at Delta State University has joined our student services team as our new Assistant Dean of Student Services and Title IX Coordinator. Dean Gant has direct supervision over the following areas: judicial affairs (student conduct), LETA, student housing and residence life, and Title IX.
- D’Aries Byrd, former residence hall director at Mississippi Valley State University has joined our student services team as our new Coordinator of Student Housing and Residence Life.
- Kentrell Miller, former intramurals coordinator at Mississippi Valley State University has joined the division as Coordinator of Student Activities and Recreation. He also serves as co-advisor for the MDCC Student Government Association (SGA).
Students residing in the residence halls will also be greeted by new faces - resident assistants (RAs) – who are eager to meet you. These students have undergone extensive training to prepare them to assist you with your student housing needs and create the optimal student housing experience.
Last, but certainly not least, get ready for an exciting campus life experience as we kick off the spring semester with several fun activities, including:
- Welcome Week is sure to bring excitement as we “Take Off Into 2023” with events held January 9-12, 2023, at various times and locations. Stay tuned to MDCC’s social media platforms for more information.
- College and Career Week is scheduled for March 27-30, 2023. Are you graduating in May 2023? If so, are you planning to further your education or enter the workforce? Either way, you don’t want to miss the Career Fair scheduled for March 29th. Various four-year institutions and industries will be participating in this event. - Spring Fest is quickly approaching, and there is not a better time to be a Trojan! Our student services team is working hard to develop an exciting schedule of events. Spring Fest will be held April 10-13, 2023. Mark your calendars and make plans to join in the fun.
- Career Closet – The grand opening of the much anticipated Career Closet is scheduled to open this spring. The closet will provide professional attire at no cost to you. Are you preparing for an interview and need a nice suit or dress to impress? Come visit the Career Closet located in the Stanny-Sanders Library. Stay tuned to MDCC’s social media platforms for more information.
- Intramural Sports is coming to MDCC this spring. The tentative schedule includes basketball, dodgeball, flag football, kickball, and volleyball. For more information, please contact Kentrell Miller at (662) 246-6483 or kmiller@msdelta.edu.
- Wellness Wednesday – Yoga, Bike Rides, Wellness Walks, Zen Den, and much more every Wednesday. Come take advantage of the various wellness activities. Event updates will be posted on MDCC’s social media platforms.
MDCC offers face-to-face classes on all campuses. We also provide a wide array of eLearning courses. Students who could not secure a schedule by the registration deadline are encouraged to register for Special Session face-to-face or eLearning courses. Interested students can register for these courses now. Face-to-face courses will begin on Monday, January 9, 2023, and eLearning courses will begin on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Students who may need to withdraw from a course(s) may do so beginning Tuesday, March 21, 2023. MDCC provides various services and programs to ensure your academic, career, technical, and health science pursuits. Below, you are introduced to a few of our cornerstone services that help make your time at MDCC a success.

Title IX: To report any sexual misconduct that occurs at MDCC, please contact Willie Gant, Jr., Assistant Dean of Student Services/Title IX Coordinator, at (662) 246-6442 or wgant@msdelta.edu. Center of Learning/Student Success: This service provides a wide range of student support services to meet your needs. The primary responsibility is to help you be successful in your pursuit of a degree or college credential. Operation hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This service is available in the Stanny Sanders Library located on the Moorhead campus.
Office of Counseling and Disability Services: MDCC offers you academic, career, and personal counseling. Counseling supports the college's mission by helping to alleviate barriers to your academic success. Counselors are available at all sites Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Nakeshia Fipps (Moorhead Campus), Pam Venton (Greenville Higher Education Center), and Katie Jones (Greenwood Center). After hours, students are encouraged to use the Crisis Text Link by texting HOME to 741741 to connect with a live, trained Crisis Counselor. Students needing special accommodations in the classroom and other areas of the college should complete an application, provide the appropriate documentation, and return all information to Nakeshia Fipps (Moorhead Campus), Pam Venton (Greenville Higher Education Center), or Katie Jones (Greenwood Center). COVID-19: Constant sanitizing at all facilities is conducted daily to minimize the spread of COVID-19 at MDCC. Sanitation stations are placed throughout MDCC facilities. Kiosk machines for temperature checks are also strategically placed throughout campus. Free COVID-19 test kits are available in the Office of Student Services located in the Vandiver Student Union while supplies last. Students exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 should contact the Office of Student Services immediately at (662) 246-6445 or email Nakeshia Fipps, Associate Dean of Student Services/COVID-19 Coordinator at nfipps@msdelta.edu.
Telehealth Services: Mississippi Delta Community College has partnered with Delta Health System to offer telehealth services. Students may schedule a telehealth visit by calling (662) 725-6261, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please note a telehealth visit costs the same as a provider office visit, including co-pay.
Office of Financial Aid: MDCC offers a comprehensive financial assistance program to assist you in obtaining a college education. The financial aid office is located in the Boggs-Scroggins Enrollment Services Center on the Moorhead campus. Trojan Rides: MDCC has partnered with several transportation agencies to provide a student shuttle service. This service provides reliable transportation to the Moorhead Campus at a discounted price. Students are able to use their financial aid by signing up for the semester. Space is limited, so students seeking shuttle services should complete the online form using the link below today. Trojan Stockade: The Trojan Stockade is a food pantry available to all MDCC students to assist with food insecurity. It is stocked with various food items as well as hygiene products, laundry items, and more. The pantry is located at the southeast corner of the Stanny Sanders Library. The Trojan Stockade will re-open on January 18, 2023. The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. All students must complete an application before using the pantry and present a valid MDCC student ID when visiting. More information related to the Trojan Stockade delivery option will be provided on the MDCC website soon. In the meantime, students who reside in the residence halls and need items delivered to their residence hall should send an email including your name, student ID number, and contact information to trojanstockade@msdelta.edu.
